Kalaripayattu is becoming popular in Europe and number of artists are flocking the kalaries in Kerala to get training.

Kalaripayattu is believed to be the fore-runner of many Martial arts such as Judo, Karate and Tae-kwon-do. Perhaps Kalaripayattu is the oldest form of martial art still practiced in the world even after the advent of Judo, Karate and Tae-kwon-do and other forms. In earlier times Kalaripayattu was practiced as a fighting skill by the warriors in the armies of the Kings and Warlords of Kerala.

The fighting ring is the theatre where the disciple of Kalaripayattu display their combating skill. Kalaripayattu martial art is also practiced by dancers as it helps them to build physical flexibility and agility.

Kalaripayattu is closely associated with yoga and Ayurveda. The disciple of the martial art of Kalaripayattu does the smooth flowing exercises of yoga to flex his muscles before going on to practicing the more energetic fighting routines of Kalaripayattu. Massage with ayurvedic oils is an important part of the Kalaripayattu routine. This martial art form has special cure for arthritis, broken bones and joints. Melthari (body Control)
Kolthari (training with wooden sticks)
Ankathari (metallic and heavy wooden weapons)
Verumkaiprayogam (unarmed combat)

Duration and Fees.

2 weeks to 2 months course in Kalaripayattu exhaustively deals with basics of Kalaripayattu, Practice in Melthari, Kolthari, Ankathari, Verumkaiprayogam. Study on co- relation of Kalaripayattu,yoga and ayurveda. Classes will be taken by renowned Gurus in Kalaripayattu. Candidates should be physically fit and must know basics of any other forms of martial arts (karate, judo..) The internee will get an international certificate in Kalaripayyattu.
